Ljubičevo equestrian games

An event with a long standing tradition, the Ljubičevo equestrian games, took place from 2nd until the 4th of September on the equestrian stadium in Požarevac. The citizens of this town regard this event as a festive day since 1964.

This year, the games were declared open by President of Serbia, Tomislav Nikolić. Before the opening ceremony, a ceremonial procession on the main streets of Požarevac took place, in which different actors took part. Those were the Ljubičevo eventers, jockeys, police cavalry, “legionaries” of the ancient town of Viminacium, horse carriages, and costumed historical characters, led by “Prince Miloš Obrenović” and “Princess Ljubica”, as well as the small voltigeurs.

Throughout this three-day-long event, the spectators enjoyed the trotting and galloping competitions, as well as the renowned Ljubičevo eventing competition. The program was enriched by diverse cultural and music spectacles, opened by the symphonic orchestra “Gvardia”. On Friday, after the ceremonial processions, concerts were held by the bands “Regina” and “Bijelo Dugme”, led by Goran Bregović. Sunday was booked for the performances of folklore ensembles and orchestra Tamburica, RTV Vojvodina, while the special guests were the distinguished authors of original folk music Čeda Marković, Jasna Đokić and Danka Stoiljković.
